Effects of bench step exercise on body composition and energy metabolism in obese high school girls

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of bench step exercise on body composition, visceral fat and energy metabolism in obese high school girls. The subjects were 13 obese girls composed of the Bench step exercise group for 12-weeks and 13 obese girls composed of the Control group. The variables of body composition and energy metabolism were measured before and after the 12-week Bench step exercise in all the subjects. The results of the study in the Bench step exercise group were as follows; weight, TBF, BMI, WHR, VFA had significantly decreased and LBM had increased. Insulin had significantly decreased, but leptin, GH and glucose had not significantly changed in Exercise group. Therefore, the regular and continuous Bench step exercise will be effective for decreasing wight, TBF, BMI, %BF, WHR, VFA and insulin, and for preventing obesity and cardiovascular disease in youth.
